Where We Are
iDEAL Digitizing is located in beautiful Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, centrally located in the Vancouver/Lower Mainland area of the province.
Who We Are
iDEAL Digitizing is owned and operated by Carey Ruddock who has over 25 years experience creating designs for automatic embroidery machines. Carey began his “Punching” career ( the original term for what we now call digitizing )   before the advent of computerization when these designs were created by punching holes into paper “jaquard” tapes using a machine called a pattern punch.

About Us
You might be wondering why the history lesson? Well it’s to make the point that you cannot plot millions of stitches by hand without gaining a very strong understanding of the proper way to construct a design for automatic embroidery.
That doesn’t mean we would want to go back to the old days of course.
System
Today we are very happy to take advantage of every technological advancement and we use Punto Designer software on Mac computers to create our designs. There are some other good digitizing applications available but we have found that Punto affords us all the professional level features that we need and being on the Mac platform gives us unparalleled compatibility with a wide variety of professional graphic arts applications. Also the rock solid stability and invulnerability to viruses of Mac OS X means that we are up and running 99.99% of the time and the designs we keep on file for you are always safe and sound.
In addition our website and email are hosted on a Mac server which has guaranteed Up times of over 99.99%
Approach
iDEAL Digitizing approaches the process of digitizing designs for embroidery by first understanding what the customer wants and then applying an extensive  knowledge of the automatic embroidery process and industry specific design skills to produce a satisfying result.
Many logos have been designed only with print media in mind and this can cause problems when the time comes to embroider your logo on to a garment.  iDEAL Digitizing can help you translate those designs into a form that will work in needle and thread without losing the integrity of the original concept.

Gross Pattern Punch Machine
The process for preparing a design to run on an automatic embroidery machine was a very time consuming one. First the design was blown up to 6.25 times it’s original size, this drawing was called a cartoon. All the outlines for the various stitch types were laid out and then every single stitch was drawn into place. Next the cartoon was taped to the large board in front of the pattern punch and the path for each stitch was plotted and each needle drop was punched into the tape using a combination of dials ( much like a giant Etch-a-Sketch ) and foot pedals. As you can imagine this was a very lengthy process and you would dare not make a mistake. A large design would take several tedious days to complete.
